Self-doubts

In times of tremendous stress, the failure to meet your expectations can be too overbearing..

It is best to comfort myself with these phrases

"If matters not if I am not the best;
It matters not if I don't get the best,
what really matters is that I have tried and done my best."

Worry, anxiety, frustration and fear do not get you anywhere. They only cause you to suffer. Resolve to get rid of them.

"May I be well
May I be happy
May I be free from fear and worry
May I be successful always."

Summer is ending!!!

The much anticipated Summer is finally drawing to a close.. With about a month to go, I must seek to accomplish as much as possible before I get caught up in a mad grueling GPA chase all over again. =(

Summer has been much satisfying. =) The trip to Japan was really awesome because it really expanded my horizons. Ballooning Bliss Camp has also allowed me to make friends and to gain a new trait in balloons sculpting! The inaugural SICS Freshmen camp has proved to be challenging and fulfilling as it allows me to have a chance to organise a camp for my freshies!

Yea, too much fun. I am beginning to feel a sense of guilt already... I must remind myself of the goals that I have set for this year!!

1)Obtain my personal dream GPA

2)Do 10 pull-ups

3)Really practise my guitar.

4)Pick up more investment knowledge (e.y.e)

5) Be more witty and eloquent

6) Master my juggling stunts

7) Improve my general knowledge.

SuntecReit

SuntecReit finally broke the prominent 5o-day SMA support line by crossing under the 25-day and 50-day SMA. This signals that prices are likely to plunge soon. Strong hint of hitting the long term 200d SMA. Besides, other indicators also point to a downtrend. Bearish convergence observed showing that the downtrend momentum is strong. The strongest indicator will probably be the bearish centerline crossover. The 12-day EMA crosses under the 26-day EMA, which is a bearish signal.

However, one can also observe that a doji was formed today which signals an undecisive battle between the bulls and the bears. I am speculating that the next few candles are bearish which will act as a confirmatory signal. If they are, go shorting! If they turn up to be bullish, then got to wait and see.

Conclusion: Good shorting opportunity. Might want to go long when more hints are clear as it approaches the 200-day SMA.

Trying to hide the pain

It's amazing what a person can do when he is feeling low. Really crazy stuff like randomly calling a low suit card as your partner and bidding high for floating bridge. Lol.

Went to Timbre @ Clarke Quay yesterday to drink with my buddies. Felt so much better when i confided in them. It is really a blessing to have such wonderful friends who will stand by me through thick and thin. The serene music also spiced up the night ambience.

Did reverse bungee jumping. Totally shocking, insane and exhilarating.

I promise to put the past behind and move on starting from today.

The first step to forget is to keep myself really busy. Glad that there is school work to push me to the extreme ; i must be really suffering from psychiatric harm to make that statement. HHAHA.

Here are the things to look forward to for my summer plan. Listing them down motivates me towards my goals =)

1.) April boardgames retreat camp
2.) Brush up my Japanese to a decent JLPT4 standard
3.) May one week Japan trip
4.) Train for IPPT
5.) Juggle at Esplanade or at school
6.) Complete FF10 on PS2
7.) Complete KH:Birth by sleep on PSP
8.) Buy a new guitar and train up my skills
9.) Read up on the investment books i have listed as "Must read"
10.) Mug for next semester modules such as MA and Finance 101
11.) Balloons of Bliss Faci / Starring SMU Faci (If I make it)
12.) SICS Camp Org Com. (If i make it)
13.) Drive around in my awesome Lorry to familiarise myself with the roads. Havn't driven for months =(

It's gonna be an awesome summer! But let's focus on school for now. =)

Pick up the pieces and move on

I have never felt like this before, a weird stabbing pain in my heart.

One would only feel the full-blown effects when reality finally sinks in.

Moving on. Everything is cool.

Shall concentrate on my finals. =)

Double Blows

Suffered two major blows that made me quite depressed today.

1) Did my Management Communication in-class assignment today. On hindsight, i spotted a grammatical mistake and also interpreted a point in the question paper wrongly. Why am I always so careless?? The weightage of this assignment is a gruelling 20%.

2) Very disappointed that my team didn't make it for the preliminary round for Fundmanager 2010. Guess our report wasn't good enough. But still, the efforts put into it amounted to a day. A day is actually quite a lot in my opinion.

This is really depressing man. I know i must control my emotions. I must tell myself to look forward and work harder. These setbacks won't deter me. I won't give up. We gonna try our best again in the upcoming business plan competition; and we gonna try until we succeed.

Time to give my best efforts for Econs this Saturday.

Week 9 here it comes

No no no... i don't want school to start. Please give me just a bit more time before the nightmare begins....The questions in the sample Econs paper are so unorthodox, i have absolutely no confidence in the upcoming test. I really need tons of luck to get through this crazy 40% midterm this coming saturday man...

We are finally going japan this MAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ii desu ne!! :)

Colbie Caillat's alluring music always never fails to brighten up my mood.

Day 4 of break

Chiong finish the fundmanager report. Dunnoe can qualify for semi-finals or not. Must really give in my best shot for my MC and Econs mid-term next week.

I must mug and stop being distracted. Urgh.

Exponential Moving Average-EMA

EMA is similar to the SMA except that more weight is given to the latest data. They are used to create indicators like the moving average convergence divergence (MACD). The EMA assigns more weight to the more recent price data and assigns less importance to the older price data. The best thing is that the weighting can be varied.

Because of this, EMA reacts quicker to price changes as compared to a SMA. On average, the EMA is 3/8 of a point closer to the price than SMA. The EMA calculation is a bit more complex and i won't attempt to go into details here. A simple google search will allow you to find out how it is calculated.

The kind of MA to use depends on your trading preferences. SMA lags behind EMA, but it is better at identifying long term trend changes. EMA is preferred to some traders because it captures price changes quicker. Because EMA is more sensitive, it often gives more signals. Although this can be good, more signals will invariably increase the chance of going into a market via a false signal. SMA gives less signals and is more reliable, but it also means that it will be late in giving out bullish signals.

If one is using chart nexus, one can simply change your SMA to a EMA by ticking on the box "exponential".

Simple Moving Averages

The midterm break is here!!:D Not that it is a break anyway, there are still the dreading midterms that are coming right up...but all is good and wonderful for now. Looking forward to the gatherings that i shall have!!

Simple Moving Averages (SMA)

One of the most important tool that technical analysts look out for is the moving averages. In fact, it is so important that it almost always guarantee profits if used wisely. Moving averages serve to smoothen the data set and sieve out all the white noises. There are three moving averages and the focus will be on SMA for now.
  1. Simple Moving Average
  2. Exponential Moving Average
  3. Weighted Moving Average
A simple moving average is the average price of a security over a number of periods. Closed prices are used to chart the lines. For example, a 10-day moving average is calculated by summing the closing prices of the last 10 days divided by 10. The common periods used are 200-day SMA, 50-day SMA and 25-day SMA. SMAs always lag behind price movements and the longer the moving average, the more it lags behind. Hence, SMAs are good at predicting trends of the stocks. SMAs are effective when there is a trend forming with little fluctuations.

Generally, a buy signal is generated when the stock price goes above the MA and a sell signal is generated when the stock price drops below the MA. Also, when a shorter period MA crosses over a longer period MA, it is a buy signal. Similarly, when a longer period MA crosses under a shorter period MA, a sell signal is established. Below is an example that i drew using Chartnexus. I chose the STI index and plot its 25, 50 and 200- day MA. Not really good at it..still learning. Quite happy because i can now run chartnexus with my Mac using VMware Fusion, that means that i can run Mac and chart instead of running bootcamp all the time. =)

NTU CRASH

Did my biz law test in the morning and i would say that it was manageable, even though i had no way of knowing how well i would do. Only thing left to do was to pray. Out of boredom, i crashed NTU after the test to find some of my buddies. It seems that all my best friends study in NTU. Managed to see like 7 of them in total. =) Their halls are really spacious and serene, except for some who are unfortunate enough to stay in the old halls. =x Let's just say the difference between the old and new halls are really drastic.

Best of all, i learnt how to play CASHFLOW today. Awesome and simple game. The most important takeaway is probably the values that the game aims to teach. Having learnt Dividends, Zeroes to Heroes and Cashflow, the last board game that seeks to promote financial literacy gonna be Acquire. Gonna learn it at the next Strategica session.

We all need constant reminders on the dangers faced on the route to financial freedom.

Here is one lesson.

http://wealthbuch.blogspot.com/2010/02/student-on-winning-stock-market-streak.html#more

Morals of the story: Never dabbles in contra trading and never compare trading simulation with real world trading. =)

Contra Trading
In Singapore, when you buy a stock, there is no requirement to put up a form of deposit with the brokerage firm. In fact, from the date of the transaction, you are given a grace period of 3 days, known as the contra period, in order to transfer the money to the brokerage firm. It is because of this contra period, that a loophole is formed. It was found that if you sold the stock that you bought before the contra period is up, the brokerage firm would offset the trades, and the net effect was that you will be paid any profits or losses you obtained from that 2 trades.

This feeling of worthlessness

I haven't cried like this for such a long time. It dawned on me that i shouldn't be living in my own fantasy world, trying hard to be someone that is not really me and creating a string of artificialness all over the place. I am disgusted with myself. I have great friends, and i would love to infect them with my vibrant energy which i think i am capable of. Yet, my mere presence just make them sulkier. Pessimism is associated with me.

I am morosely gloomy, and i dare not even acknowledge it. I better wake up my idea and stop putting the fake smile that will only serve to denigrate myself further. :(

Strive on kh!

Stress

I have just lived thru a weekend of hell. Spent my bloody sat and half of sunday reading up on a TWC case study and doing a report. The torment will just get worse as the mid-terms approach. I still have tons of stuff like fund manager proposal and CT journal to look forward to. OMG!
Jiayou!

Finance Info

Here are two ratios that are used widely to assess the profitability of mutual funds.

Sharpe Ratio

Sharpe Ratio = (Portfolio return - risk free rate)/ volatility

Risk Return Ratio

Source: Fundsupermart

The higher the sharpe ratio and risk return, the greater the prospects of the unit trusts.
It is possible to have a positive risk return ratio and a negative sharpe ratio, this means that the unit trusts have underperformed the market risk free interest rate; you would be better off buying bonds or putting your cash in fixed deposits. I think it's really hard to find funds that outperform STI so your next safer bet should be index funds like STI ETF.

Talking about STI, for those who short it, congrats to you. For those on long term position, let's hope CNY does some wonders and pray for a rally.

SGX Counter

Tip from a good friend. Resistance turned support. Look how nice it was. Look for a pullback confirmation before entering.

STI Bounces back.

WOWWW! STI really bounces off the support line of 2700 to close at 2757 today! Those bulls really optimistic.

Happy belated birthday surprise!!!

I had an awesome week! My wonderful friends prepared a belated birthday surprise for me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was so touched....awwwwwww.... Everything was great! The mango cake! the balloons! The simple dinner at Ishi Mura! ♥ Them!!!!! My group also gave its best for MC!! Hopefully we would get a good score ya!!!

Market News

Market is really bad, super bad. The psychology behind it is simply amazing. The recent announcement by Obama to cut banks risk taking caused investors to lose confidence. However, the re-election of ben bernake and the fomc meeting served to allay fears. At Dow Jones, Bellwethers like tech stocks reported earnings but yet stocks prices fell. This was apparently due to failure to meet the whisper no. ( a benchmark of expectations by analysts rather than the fundamentals).

Meanwhile, the STI index continues to fall and is thought to emulate the elliot wave theory. If it does, the estimated time it will get bullish again should be around May. Since it has reachhed the peak of the waves and looks ready to decline. OMG MAY!!! That's so long! Anyway it is kind of ambiguous anyway!!! Never enter the market now, wait for confirmation again such as a pullback to support line if you wanna play safe.

Tiger share fell like crazy on the third day of listing, which is kind of expected as people dumped their shares. The recent Tiger airline near miss accident also caused this. Alas the ryobi kiso IPO subscription period is over; not that i can get it anyway since it is on placement. But it's gonna be listed soon since it is now "PL" status on SGX. For those who wants a share of profits can catch it on the 1st day.

Hahahaha! something funny happened in eye on tuesday. People were discussing the use of Feng Shui to pick stocks for 2010.

Back to mugging. =) Bloody biz law.

真心真意谢谢你

Thanks to everyone who wished me an awesome 22nd birthday!!!! I feel so blessed to have such wonderful friends around me!!!!!

Anyway, school is really getting hectic. Week 3 has just passed and things are really heating up. At least CCA sessions like E.Y.E and Toastmasters cheered me up. I really gained a lot from them.

Toastmasters

market news

Major markets down (Hang Seng, Dow Jones and STI)
STI down to 2819. Support line at 2700. Enter STI ETF at this time?
Is yanlord a bubble now since so many money are being dumped into china's real estates. Matter of time before it tanks?
Tiger IPO is doing well and closed at 1.58 on friday. Wow. Matter of time before it tanks as well. Better dump them asap on Monday.

Back to mugging. =)

Spirited Away (Reprise)

I stumbled across a beautiful guitar rendition of Reprise from my favourite animated movie Spirited Away.

In the film, Reprise reflects the unwavering spirit of the young girl Chihoro, as she struggles with the uncertainties of a strange world filled with japanese deities and gods in a bid to save her parents.

Totally enrapturing. God, how i wish i could play like this?? I can't find the guitar tablature for this arghhhhhhhhhhh

新年要来咯!

pUSH yourself

School is here. It's time for war. =X

I cannot cui this term.

Really put in a lot of efforts for the 1st week of school, and i am all determined to meet my new year resolutions. I really want this fervour to continue for as long as possible, but it will be tough once school gets into a high tempo mode around week 3.

A look into the list of stuff that i have accomplished in the 1st week.

1)Mastered 3/4 of the song 爱我别走。Maybe once i get good enough, i will upload a video of my guitar performance here.

2) Attended Toastmasters to improve on my presentation skills. There's always something useful to learn each session. I was especially impressed by the energising techniques used by a guest speaker to arouse the interest of the audience.

3) Went for a total of 3 gym sessions in a week. Need to lose weight by running and build muscle mass for the pull-ups.

4)Attended e.y.e investment club and learnt about the downfall of LTCM,and the capricorn effect which is the bullish phenomenon that is occurring right now in the STI. Stock prices are rallying with small caps doing the lead.

It was really awesome to have Strategica session in the classroom right beside e.y.e . It was therefore really convenient to catch up with old friends, though i don't have the time to play board games with them..

And class part is super irritating in school. I have no choice but to speak out more often than what i did in term 1. Forget all the embarrassment or shyness. There is no holding back and i really can't be bothered about what others think of me.

Strive onnnnnnnnnnn!

Happy new year 2010!

As usual, it's time for me to really get down and review what the past year has brought, and to set some motivational new year resolutions for myself.

2009 has been wonderful and awesome. And i met several of my objectives that were set way back in 2009, albeit not all. Some were not achieved due to priorities and expectations that changed along the way. A major regret was that i did not sit for the JLPT4 exam. There were two reasons for these. The first was due to my heavy studies commitments. The second was that it would forbid me from taking up the Uni Jap elective mod, which i would really love to take.

For this upcoming new year, I gonna be more ambitious and greedy. I gonna set more challenging goals for myself.

1)Obtain my personal dream GPA

2)Do 10 pull-ups

3)Really practise my guitar.

4)Pick up more investment knowledge (e.y.e)

5) Be more witty and eloquent

6) Master my juggling stunts (Set up of juggling CCA)

7) Improve my general knowledge.

Jotting these down really gets me all hyped up. Some are quite intangible i realise.

It's back to school time.
